Check out some photos from our 2004 season.

2004 was the first year one of our robots featured an actual gearbox. The gearbox was based off of plans distributed by team 716, of their 2003 gearbox. 2004's robot, R.J., was also our first robot to feature pneumatics and use the van door motor. Thanks to our sponsorship (new in 2004) from Hardcore Racing, we were able to lasercut triangular holes in the tower segments, to both lighten and strengthen the tower.

Competition

Phoenix Regional

Though we had problems with broken transmissions and deflating wheels, R.J. did very well at the Phoenix Regional. We ended up taking Finalist (second place) in the competition, and the team won the Johnson and Johnson Sportsmanship Award.

Los Angeles Regional

At the Los Angeles Regional, R.J. continued to Raise the Bar, and we seeded 8th place at the end of the qualification rounds, allowing us to pick alliance partners for the elimination matches. We took Quarterfinalist in the elimination rounds. The team also won the Daimler-Chrysler Team Spirit Award, for "most overall exuberance."
