The History of FIRST

History of FIRST: FIRST website

FIRST, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen (inventor of the Segway) and Dr. Woodie Flowers. The first FIRST Robotics Competition was held in 1992, with the game Maize Craze. 28 teams played this game in a New Hampshire high school gymnasium. Now, FIRST holds over 40 regional events around the world, and has an international championship in Atlanta, Georgia. Over 1,000 teams participate every year, with more teams joining with each new season.
