Members

Our team grew considerably this year. Unlike last year, we had no shortage of willing volunteers. New recruits strived to learn and apply new skills. There's nothing better than learning how to design a frame or how to build a feed-back loop in LabView. And, as always, our cheerful students helped the mentors through some of the long nights spent finishing our bot.

Mentors

This team has always depended on the help of our magnificent mentors. Roger returned as our amazing team leader. We recieved a few visits from JPL workers. And our very own engineering teacher/JPL technician Hannah Goldberg recieved the Woodie Flowers Award!

Six Weeks

Like always, the build seson passed too quickly. A total of seven robot designs were presented by team members. After much debate, the team decided on a composite of many of the ideas. Early delays such as these led to a classic all-nighter on the last day. Despite the problems, we shipped a functional robot. Many functions of the bot remained untested however. Next stop San Diego!

Competition - San Diego and Los Angeles Regional

The team spent some frantic hours preparing for inspection at the San Diego regional. We were trying to add a pneumatics system to the bot. Unfortunately, nobody on the team had ever had to handle pneumatics. We did make it to our first match however, due to lack of proper testing, a programming error caused our robot to remain motionless for our first two matches. By our third match, we were up and scoring. Our robot's greatest weakness was its tendency to suck balls under itself. Many penalties were given until we found a suitable solution. In later matches, we scored as many as five goals. Our bot was able to navigate the tunnels spectacularly however, despite our wheel designs, we never made it over the bump.
